Hi Pete,
The competition isn't until next Saturday (12th april) so if I was you I would order on line as it normally only takes about 4 days to be delivered.
Alternatively you could go here in Bedford, Unit 5, Melbourne Street, Bedford, Bedfordshire, MK42 9AX, and see what they have in stock.

Depends how desperate u are, groin shields aren’t usually mandatory as far as im aware although im sure there a good idea, if you look up where the Blitz shops, or martial arts shops are on the internet if there’s one near by you could visit it.

Oss!
This is my first post on this site so here goes..
First congratulations to all the people that arranged & chose to take part in the 2008 CFTS competition day .I would like to say how much I enjoyed the day. I experienced - as I am sure other competitors experienced both the satisfaction from winning & learned humility in loss. There is much to learn from our losses and our victories in life, in and out of the dojo. I personally found the day very rewarding...though this morning I was reminded of a few of the more "interesting" & personal souvenirs (aches & bruises) I unknowingly gathered over the course of the day. I find trading a few techniques improves muscle memory.
I believe taking part in a club competition helps to build character and forge the strength & bonds between members of an association - something I have only experienced in CFTS , other clubs I have attended have not portrayed the camaraderie shown in CFTS . I hope every one who attended, weather a competitor or an observer enjoyed the experience as much as I.
…..Yours in karate-do

Oss. I would like to add to the sentiments of Sensei Gillies. I wolud like to say thank you to all those involved in organising the event, things like this don't pop up over night! Well done to all those who took part for the first time. I won't lie, I can't remember much of my first tournament (but I can't usually remember much after a weekend anyway), but I know it takes a lot of courage to compete for the first time. The experience will surve you well in the future. When you have to do a Kata on your own at a grading the whole thing will be less daunting as you've done it once now! I throughly enjoyed the day, although the two days after have been a bit less enjoyable (thank you to all those competitors for knocking me about!). For those who didn't make it you missed out on a good day, watching the hard work that some of the students have put in over the last few weeks pay off with some excellent performances was most enjoyable. Well done to Sensei Gillies for your award of the student of the day, you deserved it. Hopefully I'll see you all soon, in the mean time keep up the training.

Firstly may i say a .........................BIG THANKYOU

..................................to everyone who participated in whatever way at the competition to make it such a roaring success. Whether you assisted in planning the day, organisation, administration, judging, refereeing, competing, playing taxi driver, first aiding, paying for it, clearing up etc you played your part and weree equally important no matter how big or small your part was.

I must also apologise for the day over-running. We have never over run before and will do all we can to ensure it doesn't happen next time. I hope it didn't spoil your day.

If you won conratulations. If you didnt comiserations. We cant all win ! It is those who don't take away anything that learn more about themselves and their karate than those who do. Keep up your training and practice diligently and maybe next time will be your time! However please remember that competition karate is only one small part of a very beneficial physical pastime.

Thoroughly enjoyable day, even though I have two cracked ribs and some seriuos bruising from my first fight.
I hope that all who entered had a great day and that the next event is as well, if not better, attended.
Congratulations to Sensei Andy Gillies on his award for most sporting/honorouble participant, well deserved.
Thank you to all the people who were involved at all levels for making it such a brilliant day.
Look forward to next year!!!!

I enjoyed the day, particularly the judging, I must say the control was very good from all ages in all the kumite matches I oversaw & I have never seen the First Aid people looking so bored

So congrats to everyone that won something & keep up the training/train harder for all the people who did not get anything - next year could be your year!

Come on guys n girls its that time again. Lets drum up some enthusiasm for this years competition day. If you've not entered before, do so, you'll enjoy yourself ! If you have entered previously please encourage others to do so too.

The grand finale of the day once again will be a Milton Keynes area Versus Bedford area team challenge match. Who will win? Will Milton Keynes hold on to the title or will Bedford take it this year ? Make sure you don't miss this most exciting of event of the day. Be there !!

"Lets drum up some enthusiasm for this years competition day,"

Yay can’t wait specially seeing as I will be able to take part this year

Are hits to the head allowed? Obviously with a grate degree of control but will I still get ippon for a punch/kick to the head?

What category are there going to be?

Oss everyone. I am really looking forward to the competition day!!

I thought the standard was excellent last year, and from what I have seen at the recent grading etc the standard does seem to be improving.

It is always good to watch individuals do their Kata. It is interesting to see which ones people pick!!!

Please come along and support the day, even if you have not entered. It always help settle the nerves if a few members of your club are on the sidelines cheering you on!

Chris.

Oss everyone,
I hope everyone enjoyed the competition day as much as I did. Many congratulations to Bedford on winning the team kumite challenge. The fact the trophy is won by another area shows consistency in training across the CFTS clubs.
Take some thing away with you from the competition , it doesnt have to be a trophy. In my case,it was learning from watching other karateka perform during judging / overcoming nerves and performing kata...or simply taking away " I really must remember that one, " after cleverly "parrying" that last gyakuzuki with your face !
Many thanks to Sensei Kidby on organising another great day.

Oss.

I just wanted to add a quick comment on the open day.

Firstly, well done to all those who took part. Whether it was your first competiton or not, it is still a nerve racking experience.

From the people I judged and cheered on from the sidelines, I thought the standard was very high. Lets hope next year, there will be more competitors and we can push the bar evan higher!!

'parrying that last gyakuzuki with your face'. Ha ha, I am not sure that I have ever got out of the habit of that one yet!!!!

The competition does provide a change to traditional training, but now we have the next set of gradings round the corner to look forward to.

See you all soon, Chris.
