LATEST CLUB NEWS

Dan Gradings -October 2017

On Saturday 7th October after a gruelling 2-3 hour grading session, your senseis, Simon and Pam, were awarded 4th Dan. We would both like to thank everyone who trains with us, supported us and wished us well both before and after the event.

It was an amazing experience and one that neither of us ever thought we would undertake and will make us both better instructors in all areas.

Many thanks to all our students for your continued support.

Sunday July 5th saw our annual BBQ with over 60 students and familes attending. The bouncy castle proved a big hit with all ages as was the full-contact rounders & football to warm us up, and the waterfight and waterslide to cool us all down!

On behalf of Simon & Pam, your Sensei's, we're glad you all had a great day!

June 2015 Newton Longville School Summer Fete Karate Demonstration

The club was asked again this year to put on a karate demonstration at the school fete. After a wet start to the day, the clouds cleared for the fete to proceed and the demonstration took place. Thanks to all who participated, we got some great feedback from the audience (and some new students too!) and they certainly enjoyed seeing the juniors hurling the adults to the ground!

It was decided back in 1983 to reward and encourage students by presenting a club trophy at each grading. The recipient would be the student who stood out in some way from the rest for a variety of reasons.

In certain circumstances the trophy might be awarded to the karate-ka with the best technique. More commonly however it is awarded to the student who has trained with diligence and dedication. It may be awarded to a student who simply turns up regularly at the dojo early to sweep the floor. Most often though it is given to the karate-ka who shows an understanding of karate-do in some way. Maybe they have done some good deeds away from the dojo or maybe raising funds for charity etc.

To list all the reasons for handing out the trophy here is not possible but suffice to say in the eyes of their sensei it is deserved. The choice should never be questioned because it is not always possible to explain why it was awarded and sometimes it is unwise to do so. Please though join with us in giving our sincere congratulations to all winners, past, present and future.
