The junior grading system differs slightly from that of adults in as much that the mid range of grades have an intermediate level. This is because the step from one belt to the next is too big for most juniors.

To help them improve and to give them confidence for the full belt the intermediate system was devised. Psychologically the child is rewarded for improvement and allowed to grade to full belt after a further three months of practice. Confidence and ability will have both improved.

Children also have a training practice record card which they bring to the dojo to be signed by a dan grade (black belt) when they are capable of performing their next grading criteria. This system of training, recording practice and grading has virtually wiped out junior lower grades failing grading examinations. This has also eliminated upset members and distraught parents at grading time - helping improve self confidence and self esteem of the student.
