Bedford Area Grading Report - March 2025

Writer: Sensei Dan YoungSensei Dan Young

Saturday 8th March, saw us have our first grading of the year at a new venue, St. Thomas More Secondary School.

It was the first time all 3 of the Bedford area clubs had come together and the dojo was packed full of nervous students and parents alike. We started with a formal bow and the dojo kun, warm up and then into a pre-grading class. Kihon was done altogether, before we split into some groups to do kumite before collective kata up to Bassai Dai.

The trophy presentations were next up and the recipients were:

Brickhill - Logan

Kempston - Skye

Riseley - Jaxon

Gradings then started with the beginners, who did extremely well for their first grading. We then had 2 areas running simultaneously, with Sensei D. Young taking the green and purple belt group and the purple and white belt and above groups, while  Sensei S. Young took the blue and red belt group and orange and yellow belt group. Both areas were ably assisted by the other dan grades in attendance. There was great spirit, focus and effort from all those grading.

A big thank you to the Dan grades for their support at the grading and in classes in the run up to the day, senior kyu grades for coming along and assisting in kumite and to the parents and family members who came along to support.

Below are some pictures from the day.
